Overview of WGTB through the End of the WGTB Season

Hi Everyone,

I am going to try to give you an overview of the rest of the year so you can refer back to it from here on out.

First of all I am working on A BUS TRIP Saturday March 10. A bus trip is the BEST way to bond WGTB together. Spending a long stretch of time cooped up together makes us all closer. One of our long-time main corporate sponsors is Remo. They are mainly a drum head company but also specialize in hand drums. They just moved their educational center to Valencia CA. That is a about a 3-hour drive for us. They offer a community drum circle especially for kids the Beater's ages. They would love for us to come down to see their new place, possibly get a tour of the factory and enjoy playing on their instruments. It would be an all day trip. We may add another stop while we are down there as well. Cost is $35 per seat on the bus. In the past WGTB has paid the cost for the Beaters. Our funds are down right now so, I am asking families who can to pay for their Beater's seat. If you can afford to do that, I will credit your fund-raising account for this year. If paying for your Beater's seat would mean your child could not come on the trip, WGTB will pay for them. The important thing is that as many as possible make this trip. I cannot emphasize the importance of this enough. Any parent wanting to ride the bus would need to pay $35. Right now, we have a 50-seat bus so there is plenty of room for parents :>) I NEED TO KNOW YOUR BEATER'S AVAILABILITY FOR THIS TRIP ASAP

The Beaters are working on new songs to add to our playlist. Primary & Secondary BOTH are currently working on Brazil:  Please have them listen to this recording. It is very close to how we are playing it.

For veterans and rookies who are ready, we are helping them learn more than one  keyboard part per song as well as how to solo on keyboard. We are also showing them drumming parts. Those who are spending lots of time at home listening to our recordings and trying to hear the part they want to learn are showing GREAT progress. YAY!!!!!!!

We are preparing for upcoming gigs in March. We may still get a gig in February so please stay tuned. We are also preparing for our BIG Show on April 20. Mandatory Dress Rehearsal the evening of April 29. If you haven’t already, Please mark your calendars
Our BIG Show tickets are here. They are only $10 per adult and $5 kids. Kids kindergarten and under are FREE. 100% of what you sell gets credited to your fund-raising account
Beater family members need to pay for a ticket BUT again, 100% of what you sell/buy gets credited to your fundraising account
Jamba Juice cards (6 BOGO per card) are also available ALL YEAR. Cost is $10. You get $5 credited to your account for everyone you buy/sell
NOW through April 20

Lots to do during this time:

Please be sure to continue to check our Up-Coming Gigs page for details and mark your calendars

Preparing for gigs coming up (we have 2 gigs confirmed the weekend of March 3/4.  These are community gigs. We will need ALL families to do the best they can to get your Beaters to these gigs.
We move Beaters around parts as much as we can. Once your Beater is on a solo or drumming list (they do this by showing us in practice they can do it) they very well could be on a different part each performance
This is also a great time to start talking to your school principal, event coordinator (not necessarily a school) or whoever schedules gigs. An assembly is the BEST way to introduce students to WGTB. If that isn't possible, playing the school carnival, multi-cultural day, etc. is the next best thing. Once the school/organization agrees to consider having us, please give them my contact info or give me theirs if they prefer I contact them
We could use MORE community gigs to increase our exposure
We will be preparing for our BIG Show during this time as well. We will want to put our best show on that night. We will be evaluating which configuration of Beaters makes the band sound the best on each tune. Please be sure to check our Up-Coming Gigs page for details on April 19 and 20
We honor our older/multi-year Beaters on The BIG Show by having them learn a song that only they play. This year, former Beater/teaching assistant McKenna Reeve arranged the Earth Wind & Fire hit September  If your Beater is on this tune we will need to have them come at 3:30pm soon. You will be contacted when we confirm the start date of the extra practices
April 20 through May 31

More gigs to play, new tunes to learn, more parts to learn, more instruments to get better on. For some Beaters, all their efforts to figure out how to be successful in WGTB start to come together. All the training finally is sinking in. Lots of progress happens during this time
May 29/30 will be our last rehearsal or end-of year party, unless someone comes up with a better plan for a party on the weekend. The Beaters always enjoy a swim party during this time of year. If any parents would like to volunteer their pool, the Beaters would appreciate it
This week is also the last payment week for those paying monthly
